Crop Video

Crop a video without uploading it anywhere: drag the frame over the preview or type exact pixels, lock the ratio to 1:1, 16:9 or 9:16 for vertical platforms, and the video is re-encoded in your browser with everything outside the frame removed.

How the video cropper works

The frame works like a photo cropper: drag to move, pull the handles to resize, and use the seek slider to check the framing at different moments of the video. The width, height and position fields mirror the frame in real pixels.

On crop, ffmpeg (compiled to WebAssembly) re-encodes the video with the crop applied — H.264 with AAC audio in an MP4 that plays everywhere. Dimensions are rounded to even numbers, which H.264 requires. Processing takes roughly the video's own length, and a progress bar tracks it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a video to vertical 9:16?
Choose "9:16 (Vertical / TikTok)" in the ratio list — the frame locks to the right shape for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Drag it to the part of the scene you want to keep and press crop.
Does cropping re-encode the video?
Yes — unlike trimming, cropping changes every frame, so re-encoding is unavoidable. The tool uses H.264 at a quality level where the difference isn't visible in normal use.
How long does it take?
Roughly the duration of the video itself, sometimes faster — everything runs locally, so it depends on your device's CPU. The progress bar shows the real encoding progress.
Is my video uploaded while cropping?
No. The preview, the frame and the ffmpeg encoding all run in your browser. The video never leaves your device.
